17 months!

I can hardly believe it, Em is just one month away from being 1 1/2 years old! She has really become such a sweet, funny, curious, and joyful little girl. She's still my baby, but every day it is becoming more and more clear that she is very much her own little person.

Tonight we got a full display of how much Emerson is learning. She loves to read (always has), but now she actually finds humor in and actually laughs at some of the silly parts or pictures. She also knows just what animal to point to when we ask "where's the elephant?" or tiger or fish or kitty, etc. For the first time, I asked her what sound certain animals make and she actually made a "sssssss" sound when asked what does a snake say, "woof" for the dog (at least it sounded like it) and a "moo" sound for the cow.
Overall, she continues to surprise me with how much she understands and how much more she's able to communicate. Here are just a few examples...

Since she loves to go outside, the mere mention of the word gets her very excited. She chases after her shoes and usually remembers which door they were last left at. She'll then sit right down and wait for you to put them on and knows just which door to go to if you say "front" or "back".
When she's hungry, she'll point to and actually start to climb up her highchair. Also during our last visit to Todd's parents over the 4th, after playing a while outside, she went right up to Todd's mom and pointed to her mouth. We asked her "are you hungry?" and she pointed again to her mouth and then took off for the door.
She acts in a similar manner when she is tired. She'll go to the the bottom of the stairs and shake the gate, waiting for you to take her upstairs.

She'll take my hand to lead me somewhere or take my hand and move it hold on to or take something.

And of course, there is her expanding vocabulary....
Mama
Dada
Buh-Byeeee
Byeee
Ball
Hi
Whoa
Uh-Oh
Oh
Wha (what?)
Ba (baby)
C-ya

And then there's my new favorite.... Em's kisses. She very recently began giving kisses. If you ask her for a kiss, she'll come over, lean towards you with her lips sucked in and grinning, wait for you to give her a big **smooch** and then giggle! It is the best!

(Along the side are pictures of Emerson playing outside yesterday. She loves "collecting" things, especially sticks and stones.)
